When Mom’s Happy, EVERYONE’S HAPPY!

If you asked most moms what their hobby was, they’d probably end up laughing and shaking their heads.  Between grocery shopping, doing the laundry and running kids all over town, you might think a mom’s hobby is sleeping!  It is really hard to find time as a busy mom to even take a few moments to put on makeup, let alone indulge in the fun act of quality alone time doing something just for you.  But kids and husbands take note, you can secretly find out what mom likes to do in her few minutes of spare time by observing her in action.  Here are some hints on how to find out what to get your mom for Mother’s Day.

Gardening:  Does your mom like to be outside digging around in the planter box?  Although this may be a chore for some moms, there are other moms who look forward to some outside time.  So get her something that she can use in the garden, maybe a new hand tool, pretty garden gloves, a cushioned knee pad or some fun garden clogs.  Visit the garden shop, and you can’t go wrong.

Crafts:  Is your mom always creating homemade cards or scrapbooking?  Then it sounds like she is crafty.  The hardest part about a crafty mom is to make sure you know what crafts she enjoys doing, so you get the right gift.  Check out her spare room or closet to see what she has stashed away, and then go to the local craft store and stock up on her favorite craft items.
Baking:  Maybe your mom could give Betty Crocker a run for her money in the kitchen?  If so, it sounds like you mom just might be a baker at heart.  Rummage through her kitchen drawers, and see if she needs any updated tools like measuring cups, pie slicers, or spatulas.  How about a pretty cake plate to display her cupcakes?  Or a fancy apron to wear while she is making dinner?

Techno-savvy:   This mom might be on Facebook or the phone most of the time, chatting it up with others and downloading new apps.  Anything that you can buy for her to make her techno time more fun is a no-brainer.  How about a new game for her phone or computer to play while she unwinds for the evening?  Maybe she needs a portable charger for the car so she always has her phone ready to go?  If she can use it, get it.

Reading:  Curling up with a good book is not like it used to be.  Now moms who like to read can download a good book in minutes on her Kindle without having to leave the couch.  Maybe your mom enjoys actually going to the bookstore, smelling all the great books, and sipping mocha while searching for the perfect read?  A gift certificate to the bookstore could be a mini-vacation for your mom.

Busy moms may not get to spend as much time as they would like on themselves, but getting them a gift that shows them you notice what makes them happy is at the top of any mom’s wish list.  It may be just what they need to find those extra minutes to recharge, getting to do something they like, and when mom’s happy…EVERYONE’S HAPPY.
