The Albany Consort Recital

CSU, Chico to Present Early Music
Recital Featuring The Albany Consort

The Chico State Department of Music and Theater presents Afternoon Elegance, an Early Music Recital featuring The Albany Consort from San Francisco, Sunday, September 9th beginning at 2 p.m. in Rowland-Taylor Recital Hall.

The recital will feature music by Scarlatti, Rameau, and Vivaldi, among other composers, and will conclude with Johann Sebastian Bach’s spectacular “Harpsichord Concerto in D.”

“I’m so pleased to welcome The Albany Consort to their first recital in the Chico area,” said Dr. David Scholz, coordinator of the Early Music Recital Series at CSU, Chico. “While I have not had the pleasure of hearing them in person, I have received glowing recommendations about this fine ensemble from numerous sources.”

The Albany Consort is unique in that the membership is somewhat fluid; the performers change according to the music selected by their director and harpsichordist Jonathan Salzedo.

“The membership can be as few as two players or as many as 16-20 instrumentalists,” noted Scholz.

For their Chico performance the group will employ five players on harpsichord, recorder, violin, viola, and cello, with the cellist occasionally using the viola da gamba, which is the predecessor of the modern cello.

“To see such a fine group of performers that are technically skilled and wonderfully musical playing the music of such great composers will be a real treat for the Chico community,” said Scholz. “I truly hope that people take the opportunity to hear this elegant recital!”

Advance tickets, at $15 adults, $13 seniors, and $6 students/children, available at the University Box Office, 6333; add $2 for tickets purchased at the door. For disability-related seating please call 898-6333.
