April was very nice here in the desert. Only a few warm days, but now that May is here, summer is upon us. It has been in the 100’s, and I am spending a lot of time in the house! Mom lets me run out on the golf course at night. I just love it. No one around, and I get to run and pee on all the trees! Sometimes my friends are out, too! Austin has come by, and he and I run. And the two Yorkies, Kirby and Coco like to run, too. Coco more than Kirby. But we just run around all over! It’s nice ‘cause the lawn is cool, and we don’t go on the cart paths ‘cause the cement is still hot!
Paulette and Mark have gone home, whew! No more walking. Mom still takes me to the dog park, but I don’t have to go for those walks. And now when the phone rings in the morning, I know it’s not for me! Hah! She walks the two little Boston terriers of her daughter. They have longer legs. I hope they enjoy it more than I did! I am home free until next November! Or is it October? Not sure, but anyway it’s too hot to walk. I go for a ride every afternoon with Dad to get the mail in the golf cart. That’s good enough for me.
Mom seems to think I am a water dog! She bought a life vest for me and takes me in the pool with her. She just doesn’t get it. I don’t like the water! Even when the sprinklers come on, I run into the house. I don’t want to get wet. But when she puts that stupid life vest on me, it has a handle on top, she picks me up and puts me in the pool with her. Now the temperature is about 84 degrees, so it’s nice, but … I hate the water! She seems to think that it will cool me down. I can sit inside the house with the air on all day and be cool. I don’t need the pool to cool off. Mom and Dad like it, so let them do it. You should see me, I look dumb in the life vest. But I will admit, it keeps me afloat, head and all. Without it I would sink like a brick, ‘cause I am top heavy. The minute I hit the water, my little feet are moving as fast as they can, so I can get out of there! Not sure which I hate more, the pool or a bath. Both of them get me wet, but the bath has soap and more water. Maybe the pool isn’t so bad for me after all—there is no soap!
My friend Harley left to go home to Washington, and it is very quiet here now. Most of the Snowbirds have flown the coop. They are gone for the summer. They should be called snow chickens, ‘cause the minute the weather warms up, there is a mass exodus from the desert. They all return home to their cool places, like Vancouver, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Sweden, etc. Life is good here, even without them. I still have all my friends at the dog park. A lot of them live here year round, so I get to see them often. Well, it’s time to go—Mom is taking me to the dog park!
