Band Concert to Benefit Volunteer Fire Department October 18
The Berry Creek Volunteer Fire Department will kick off their fundraising to buy a new fire-fighting vehicle with a benefit concert by Sacramento-based band CAKE on October 18, 2008 at the Oroville Municipal Auditorium.
The Berry Creek Fire Department, Company 61 is dependent on private donations and support to serve the community and their overall goal is to raise $60,000 to pay for their share of the new fire-fighting vehicle. Multiple fires during this summer have stretched Company 61’s resources thin. While the Volunteer Firefighters were busy fighting blazes in Berry Creek and the surrounding areas, they were sometimes away from home and their families for a week or more at a time. At one point, there were Berry Creek Firefighters fighting fires while their own homes were under evacuation.
The new vehicle will allow firefighters to respond to medical calls, traffic accidents, and fires. The new squad will have a 300 gallon water tank, and more crew space, which will add to the firefighting capabilities of the department that the current squad doesn’t allow. The new squad will greatly improve Company 61’s mission to serve the community.
CAKE is generously giving back by donating their time and talent for the benefit. Jake Early, a Chico artist is donating his time and original artwork for limited edition concert posters. Dax and Betsy of Greenline Cycles in Oroville as well as Diamond W in Chico will be helping by selling tickets at their businesses. Their help as well as local businesses are invaluable in reaching our goal of acquiring a new fire-fighting vehicle for Berry Creek.
