Free Butte County Brush Chipping
Are you ready for the 2008 fire season? County residents who’ve cut brush to create defensible space around their homes, along their driveways and access roads can now participate in the free Chipper Program. This program provides another resource for getting rid of brush and provides an alternative to burning. The program will run until the beginning of next fire season.
Cut brush, and lay the branches with all the cut ends facing the same direction towards the side the chipper would pull up next to. It is very important to not stack the rows over 4’ tall. Once properly stacked and placed in an accessible area, the brush material is reduced to chips by the chipping crew and chipper. Note: chips are broadcasted back onto the ground, not hauled away. It makes for great mulch and ground cover for erosion.
Many communities have a local volunteer assisting in coordinating the chipper for their area. To find out how to participate in this program and learn who your community coordinator is call the Butte County Fire Safe Council at 530-877-0984 or visit our website at www.ButteSafeFire.org
This program is made possible by grants from Butte County Air Quality Management District, Bureau of Land Management’s Community-Based Wildfire Prevention Grant Program of the California Fire Safe Council, Secure Rural Schools Act, Title III Funds, Proposition 40 Community Assistance Grant through the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and last but not least, donations from local residents. We can not run this program without your support and appreciate the tax deductible donations. Any donations can be mailed to Butte County Fire Safe Council, 767 Birch Street, Paradise, CA 95969.
