Living History Day in Forbestown, June 7


Plan now to be at opening day on June 7, 2008 at the Yuba Feather Museum and the little town of Gold Trader Flat in Forbestown. Your senses will thrill at the sights ofa by-gone era and the air will be filled with the delicious aroma of hot dogs, funnel cakes and chili, cooked in an outdoor setting. Quench your thirst with a frosty bottle of Sarsaparilla from the Mercantile, pan for gold, watch a stamp mill in action and leam how pioneer miners coaxed gold out of the rock. Watch and learn how the antique printing press works, and you can inquire into your family ancestors in the Genealogy Room.
We are looking for chili cookers for the 2nd annual Chili Cooking Off. The contest will run from lOAM to 2 PM with prizes awarded at 3 PM for a variety of categories such as best decorated booth, most original, most colorful as well as best chili. $5 will; buy you a tasting kit to sample chili and a ballot for voting for your favorite chili. Opening Day is the first of three living history events this season and docents in period costumes will relate the rich history and colorful stories of days long past in the gold rich towns of the foothills. Gold Trader Flat is a replica town built in the fashion of the old mining and logging towns of the 1850’s. Gunfighters Incorporated will again be on hand to perform two thrilling Old West gunfight shows, a favorite with young and old alike. Live music, dancers, demonstrations and free admission. Hard to beat this combination in today’s economy. This is a day for the entire family with something for everyone. The Pantry will be open selling an array of tasty treats ahd all proceeds from the Pantry, the Mercantile and the Gift shop go towards the operation of the museum and for construction and maintenance of the town located at 19096 New York Flat Road in Forbestown. All the work done on this delightful little venue is done by volunteers. New members are always being sought and are very welcome to join the Association.
The days celebration begins at 9 AM with a flag raising and ends at 4 PM. Gold Trader Flat’s honorary sheriff, Armando Silvas, will be on hand to keep the peace, so bring the whole family, explore the town and enjoy a fun filled day in the beautiful foothills of Butte and Yuba Counties.
