State Parks Seek Volunteers

California State Parks at Lake Oroville needs interesting people to staff our information counter, greet visitors from around the world, teach local history, or share nature’s wonders to our young people!
Other activities such as participating in living history demonstrations or teaching arts and crafts of the 19th century are popular opportunities that provide satisfying experiences for community involvement and personal growth.
A new volunteer training program, will begin Saturday,  February 23 and run from 10AM to 4PM on the next two Saturdays, March 1 and 8.
State Parks and Dept. of Water Resources personnel along with experienced volunteers offer a thorough seminar that covers local history and nature, the construction and outstanding features of Oroville Dam, and the variety of camping options, and the varied recreational opportunities available to the public.
Topics included in the program are:
Birth of the Oroville Dam and details of the statewide California water project that begins here with the Feather River watershed.
The lives of the Native Concow Maidu, which means “the People of the Garden”
Gold Panning with the opportunity to find real flakes of gold!
Pioneer fashions and craft demonstrations
Park operations, rules and regulations
Camping and boating facilities
Fishing and hiking opportunities
Historic sites around the lake
State Parks hiring process
Prospective volunteers become confident, knowledgeable spokespersons for Lake Oroville, for State Parks, for the D W R, and most importantly for themselves! Stay active, stay healthy, stay involved.  If you are an interesting person we need you! Stop by the Visitor Center, or call us today at 538-2219!
