It's Berry Creek Berry Festival Time, Aug. 14, 2010!

(by Lanny Dragon - August 09, 2010)

Its an age old tradition for neighbors to gather and celebrate with festivals of food, fun, music and dancing, and my neighbors in Berry Creek invite you to join us in Berry Creek for the 12th Annual Berry Creek Berry Festival on August 14. It will be a day of free music and entertainment on our stage under the canopy, starting at 10 a.m. with our flag ceremony, continuing until 4 p.m. when the last band does its last encore and the dust settles in the dance area.
Berry Creek is named for our founder, Henry Berry, but remembered for the abundance of wild blackberries in the area. I remind you once again if you want to take home a fresh baked berry pie, buy it early! Last year over 700 were sold out by a little after noon!
This year the festival will feature more fun for kids than ever! Besides the bounce house, face painting, and hands-on crafts, kids will be able to take a pony ride under trees. The ponies are provided by Peaceful Dove Ranch in Palermo. Our craftsman who makes wonderful wooden toys will be back this year; he and other crafters sell reasonably priced kids items.
Our crafters are screened for quality and variety as well as value and pricing, and they must comply with our hand-made requirement. Suppliers from throughout the north state apply for table spaces, and once again we have a sell out! Some crafters will celebrate their 12th festival with us this year at the Berry Creek Berry Festival.
Most activities take place outside on the Grange grounds under canopies and misters. However, one special event takes place each year inside the Grange Hall the annual Sierra Foothills Art Association exhibit and sale, so dont forget to drop in and admire the skills of local artists.
Outside again, day-long drawings for raffle prizes will be announced at the stage. Many of the vendors as well as individuals and businesses have generously donated great items. Tickets are reasonable, and the money collected goes toward worthy community causes.
Food vendors will offer tri tip sandwiches, hot dogs, Mexican food, tamales, snow cones and much more. Cold soda and water, cookies, home-made bread and treats to please any age or palate fill out the rest of our food offerings.
You can sit in the stage area and enjoy your food while taking in the free day-long entertainment. Favorites Jim Halsey and the Nighthawks and Lee Side Riders will be back, and the cloggers and pie eating contest will fill in much of the rest of the program. Many of our entertainers have appeared 8 or more times with us in Berry Creek. What brings everyone back on the second Saturday in August each year? Perhaps because its cooler in the foothills, the people are friendlier, its a great day filled with free entertainment or that the vendors and artists are talented and reasonable.
To find out for yourself, on August 14 take Highway 162 east out of Oroville and follow the signs to Bald Rock Road. Youre almost there! Just a few more miles on Bald Rock Road and youll reach the Berry Creek Grange. Stay an hour or more or spend the day, but dont forget the other businesses and places to visit in Berry Creek.
Bring the kids as mentioned before, we have special activities for them. And bring your neighbors. Please leave the dogs at home. We have no facilities for dogs, and they can be a health and safety problem in the crowded Grange areas. We are a No Dog event!
Why will I be at the 12th Annual Berry Creek Berry Festival? Easy its the berries! Hope to see you between 10 and 4 at the Berry Creek Grange on August 14th, the second Saturday in August. Dress is country casual, food is great and the entertainment is free at the 12th Annual Berry Creek Berry Festival. Ill save a place for you!
