Paradise Branch Library is a Family Place
Butte County Library recently held the ‘reveal celebration of the Paradise Branch Librarys newly revitalized Childrens Area! The effort is part of the Paradise Branch Librarys being designated as an official Family Place Library, the result of grant funding from the California State Library with additional support provided by First 5 Butte County Childrens & Families Commission. Thanks to the grant, one of only 13 presented to library jurisdictions throughout California, families will not only enjoy wonderful family friendly surroundings but also an enhanced childrens and parenting collection (books, magazines, CDs, DVDs) and special programming in the form of Library Playtimes for children ages 1 to 3 and their families.
Prior to the unveiling Butte County Library Director, Linda Mielke welcomed the crowd and guest speakers Bessie Condos, (California State Library, Youth and Childrens Services, Sacramento) and Kathy Deerr, (National Coordinator, Family Place Library, New York) who spoke on the extraordinary developmental growth that takes place in children under the age of three and the vital role of a childs parent/primary caregiver in this successful development, as well as the significance of play and the unique position of the library in expertly supporting families.
The delightful and meaningful event was attended by interested community members including Supervisor Kim Yamaguchi. For more information, please come on in to check it out, contact the Paradise Branch at 872-6320, or visit www.familyplacelibraries.org.
