Get ready for some old fashioned fun! Forbestown Daze is Saturday, August 7, 2010.
The day begins at 9 AM at the Yuba Feather Museum, located at 19096 New York Flat Road in Forbestown with a flag raising ceremony conducted by Boys Scouts and the Brownsville VFW. Throughout the day volunteers of the Yuba Feather Historical Association will bring the colorful characters of Gold Rush days to life in a Living History day as they entertain you with fascinating stories of the people who lived and settled in the foothills. In the adjacent town of Gold Trader Flat, see a working blacksmith fashion tools and utensils out of hot iron, watch how a spinning wheel turns alpaca wool into warm sweaters and mittens for winter; pan for gold and watch as a stamp mill crushes rock to reveal the gold inside. See how newspapers were printed on a real old fashioned printing press. Explore the millinery shop, the barber shop, the Sheriffs Office and the Wells Fargo Office. Peek in Hector Acorns cabin, and see Hector sleeping and snoring away inside. A visit to the homestead cabin illustrates how a pioneer family lived and the old tools and implements used back then will make the ladies glad they live in todays world. Enjoy the peaceful quiet inside the chapel and ring the school bell next door at the little one room schoolhouse.
Several candidates are running for honorary sheriff of the little town of Gold Trader Flat, and you are encouraged to vote and vote and vote. Each $1 donation is a vote and the candidate raising the most money will be elected and wear the sheriff badge for the next year. If you should run afoul of the law youll wind up in Jail and youd better have some bail money to get out!
Always a crowd pleaser, Gunfighters, Incorporated will be on hand to entertain young and old alike with their shenanigans. Marshals and gunslingers will shoot it out in the streets of Gold Trader Flat after a robbery of the Wells Fargo Office. Its always entertaining when the Gunfighters come to town.
Theres something for everyone in the family with a flea market, a vintage costume jewelry sale, a bake sale and a farmers market. Inside the museum youll find the family history research room, photographs, displays and tools that trace the regions heritage and people: Maidu Indians, fur trappers, gold miners, loggers, Chinese and pioneers. The Pantry will be serving up some mouth watering grub and at the Mercantile you can quench your thirst with an icy cold bottle of Sarsaparilla. Live toe tapping music, singers and fast footed dancers will entertain you at the Barn. Best of all, admission is absolutely free, so whats stopping you?
