Summer Interpretive Programs at Lake Oroville

Lake Oroville campfire programs, featuring dramatic presentations on local wildlife resumed on Saturday night, May 29 at the Loafer Creek Campfire Center off Olive Highway.
The public, as well as registered campers and boaters at the lake are invited to bring their children to experience these traditional camping activities, explained Mike Hubbartt, State Park Interpreter, who is coordinating these educational events. Entrance fees to the Park are waived for those attending.
Family campfire programs, youngsters Junior Ranger and Cub educational activities, learning how to pan for real gold, and a Summer Speaker Series highlight the interpretive programs at Lake Oroville from Memorial Day weekend through the summer months. Learning is fun for the whole family at our State Park programs, said Hubbartt.
Junior Ranger and Junior Cub Programs and Nature Creations engage children with hands-on activities, but space is limited so sign-ups must be made in advance. The programs offer children opportunities to develop their appreciation for our natural resources and cultural heritage.
Junior Ranger programs offer structured sessions that inspire kids to seek out self-guided discovery and learning in the Park grounds. They receive a workbook, a log book, and upon completing their exercises earn award buttons, certificates and a patch to show off their accomplishments.
Opportunities to pan for real gold is always a favorite. It is scheduled Sunday afternoons at 1 p.m. at the Visitor Center. The expense of gold means there is a modest cost, but the experience is priceless. Access to all Park programs is free.
All programs are accessible to persons with disabilities. For more information, please call 530-538-2219.
