Oroville Museum Docents Honored
Oroville Museum Docents were honored at the annual recognition luncheon sponsored by the City of Oroville on Thursday, May 13, 2010. Museum Docents are the corps of volunteer guides who staff the local museums. They act as tour guides and interact with visitors to insure that they have a memorable experience. They collect admission fees, staff the gifts shops, update records, and assist with special projects. Docents truly are ambassadors to all who visit the City museums. They are also the life blood of making the museums work. The luncheon was catered by Oroville High Schools ROP-Chef Prep Class under the direction of Toni Morucci. The students planned the menu, prepared the food and served the meal.
Close to 7,000 hours of time were donated by the Docents in 2009 and over 60,000 hours of time have been donated by this industrious crew of local residents since keeping track of volunteer hours. Freda Flint, Chairperson of the City of Oroville Parks and Trees Commission, presented certificates to those attending the luncheon and recognized their tireless efforts at making Orovilles museums special. Sharon Atteberry, City Administrator presented a large floral bouquet to the group saying, This bouquet represents the Citys appreciation and honor of your service as a group. As she turned the bouquet around she said, Youll see that the arrangement is made up of many individual bouquets and they represent each one of you. She then presented each docent with their own flowers which were fastened with a colorful ribbon and a Payday candy bar.
The luncheon also honored the Citys Parks and Trees Department who maintain the museum buildings and the surrounding areas keeping them meticulous for visitors. A proclamation was shared with the Parks and Trees Department honoring their work. City Councilmember, Thil Wilcox, also presented the Docents with a proclamation expressing the Citys gratitude.
The City museums include C.F. Lott Home in Sank Park, Bolts Antique Tool Museum, The Chinese Temple and Museum Complex, Pioneer Memorial Museum, and the Feather River Nature Center.
