Oroville Company to be Honored in Sacramento

Comp-U-Bytes owner, Gary Norwood (from left), and employees Kenny Barth, Tina Pruitt, Dane Mutters, Roland Bussiere, Chris Roberts and Mick Ruscigno are proud to have their company selected to be honored as the Assembly District #3 representative at the 2010 California Small Business Day in Sacramento on May 25.
Members of the Oroville Area Chamber of Commerce know a good thing when they see it. Comp-U-Bytes Computers, voted the Chambers Small Business of the Year for 2009, was recently selected by Assemblyman Dan Logue to be honored from Assembly District #3 at the 2010 California Small Business Day in Sacramento on May 25.
Comp-U-Bytes Computers was selected in part because of owner Gary Norwoods community involvement in the Oroville area. He is chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oroville Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Noon Rotary Club of Oroville, Business Networking International (BNI), Oroville Economic Development Corporation (OEDCO) and the BayTech Alliance. Norwood also contributes technical support for several community organizations, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of the North Valleys Teen Center in Oroville.
The Oroville business community is coming alive and its great to see it getting noticed at the state level, said Norwood. Receiving this type award just goes to show you that people are noticing that the small business people in Oroville are actively involved in their community, and that business in Oroville is alive and thriving.
Norwood plans to attend the event and receive the award in person
Oroville Area Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Claudia Knaus said she is proud to see a local business and Chamber member being honored, but not surprised.
Oroville is increasingly being seen as a growing area with lots of opportunity, said Knaus. Small businesses have always been the backbone of the business community and will continue play a vital role in the Oroville areas growth and development. And, after all, Comp-U-Bytes was selected as the Chambers Small Business of the Year for 2009.
California Small Business Day is the result of the California Assembly passing a resolution in 2000 to honor small business in the state. It is presented by the California Small Business Association, supported by the state legislature and sponsored by 31 small business organizations and chambers of commerce. The day is dedicated to recognizing the contributions of small business to the state of California
Small Business Day is divided into three activities. The morning consists of speakers that are familiar with doing business in California and there is a question and answer section which gives small business owners an opportunity to get answers to the questions they have. The luncheon portion of the day is dedicated to the California Senate and Assembly honoring small businesses from with-in their districts. The day ends with a key-note address. The Governor is always invited to attend and has attended past years.
The California Small Business Association is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization that makes its mission to provide small business with a meaningful voice in state and federal governments, according to its Website.
