Primitive Middle Mountain Walk, May 23, 2010
Sunday, May 23—8:30 AM to 3:30 PM
Primitive Middle Mountain Walk: Ever wonder about Indian bedrock mortars? How were they made? How long have they existed? If so, then join the Yuba Historical Society on their Primitive Middle Mountain Walk on Sunday, May 23, to find the answer to these questions and other details concerning the Maidu and Wintun Indians who visited the Sutter Buttes for countless generations. Chuck Kritzon, old ways specialist on staff at the Maidu Interpretive Center in Roseville, will guide the group to several ancient encampments within the Buttes. Chuck specializes in making tools used by Native Californians and will demonstrate his handy work, taking participants back to the time when Pronghorns and Grizzles roamed and Condors soared through the ancient Sutter Buttes.
The price for this outing is $15 for YHS members and $25 for non-members; memberships begin at $15.
