Sank Park & Chinese Temple Grounds Receive Rebate

The City of Oroville Redevelopment Agency was notified today that it will be receiving part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) $2.6 million in brownfield grants to Northern California communities. The City will receive $200,000 for funding clean-up of hazardous substances and $200,000 for funding of petroleum related cleanup. Tom Fitzpatrick, Redevelopment Agency Coordinator for the City said, We applied for this grant along with many other cities and jurisdictions and are pleased that the EPA funded our grant application. The City has identified the Historic Downtown corridor as the area to be reviewed. The City of Oroville will be establishing parameters for the program in the near future and is hopeful that affected property owners will view the program as a benefit in improving and adding to the value of their property.
The EPA began the brownfields program in 1995 and has awarded over 1700 assessment grants. These grants are a great help to assist under-served and economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson stated that the grants target areas where cleanups and new temporary and permanent jobs are most needed which leads not only to health and environmental benefits but also economic development and prosperity.
Questions about the grant may be directed to Tom Fitzpatrick, RDA Coordinator of the City of Oroville at (530) 538-2405.
