Historic Lott Home Celebrates with Free Event, February 28, 2010
The brooms, gloves, and dust cloths have been put away and the Historic Lott Home in Sank Park is sparkling and ready to welcome visitors back.
To celebrate there will be an open house on Sunday, February 28th, from 11:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Docents will be dressed in period costume with tea, cookies, and tours provided. The festivities will include special displays from the Butte County Historical Society highlighting the Citrus and Olive Expo that was part of Oroville’s early history.
The Lott Home, a favorite of local and out of town visitors, was built in 1856 by Charles Fayette Lott a former state senator. The Victorian-Gothic-Revival style home has period furniture and is decorated with many art objects, crystal, silver and clothing typical of Oroville’s early era. City of Oroville docents provide an interesting and informative tour of both floors of this stylish period home. Visitors can also enjoy meandering over two acres of manicured gardens, quiet spots for reflection, herb gardens, an inspiring gazebo, and a coach house garage complete with Cornelia (Lott) Sank’s 1922 Buick touring car.
The gazebo, pavilion, coach house and kitchen facilities are available for weddings and other events. Please contact Suzanne Fuentes at the City of Oroville (530) 538-2415 for additional information.
