It may still be raining in Oroville. Chains may still be required on Highway 80, heading towards the ski slopes. I heard there were rocks on Highway 70 towards Qunicy. I also know, the local merchants are in the process of switching inventory. That means sales, sales, and more sales!
If we shop downtown Oroville, we could get some tremendous bargains, before they unload the seasonal clothing, shoes, and furniture, etc. The are beginning to stock for Spring. The merchants are encouraging you and others to shop in downtown Oroville.
You could live in Chico, Paradise, Gridley, or another community. Wherever, I pray you keep your funds, where you live. Support your local merchants. They need you. Some need me. But most important, we all need to support our locals, our neighbors, and our community. Times are tough! That’s okay … “been there done that!” Because I love my kids, your kids, our neighbors, I beg you to support whomever, wherever, you live—now more than ever.
Businesses come and some go. That’s life. It is also this economy. Take a look back in history. How have we survived, in the past? Think about it …
The Address, La De Da and a portion of Ruby’s moved to Chico! I pray you succeed. Please, keep me informed of your progress. I learned to love each and every one of you, when you were located in “our” downtown. I wish each and every one of you success, in your new endeavor.
I was totally surprised and saddened, when I learned that Scoops was closing their doors. What happened to this delightful family who contributed to every event? I certainly did not know the Kell family, before moving to Oroville. But, I grew to love them, when we finally made acquaintance. Who is Tricia? A wonderful public relations young lady, who is doing her thing. I thought she was going to San Mateo to run a wonderful hotel. Ooops, I was wrong. This public relations lady is now in Guatemala. Oh my? This world is changing. You will see and hear more about this young lady. Keep in touch! We both have relatives in San Mateo, Burlingame, and The (real) Peninsula.
I’m sorry to see Galeria Mexicana going out of business? My heart goes out to them. I just wish I still had my home, from yesteryear, and could take advantage of their wonderful 50-70% Off Sales. (I also wish I had been decorating a large home that would accommodate their unique furnishings.)
.Com is moving to Park Avenue & Myers Street. Bella’s was going to switch to a new name, which included her partner and mother? Guess they have had a few delays.
At the Downtown Business Association (DBA) holiday dinner, Pam Casner said: “My heart belongs to Historical Downtown Oroville.” (Her term on the DBA board recently ended, and she declined reappointment.) My heart went out to her because I feel the same way. It took me an entire year to walk the four square blocks from Myers and Montgomery Streets, back to the end of Municipal parking lot. I still cannot get around that four square blocks, without stopping, inspecting, visiting, and loving all the entrepreneurs who greeted me, invited me, and kept me involved and informed. Nostalgia? You bet!. I have said it before, and have to say it again, “Wow! They truly energize me!” Who? Historical Downtown Merchants who have hung in there, through thick and thin. Can you tell I love them? John and Pam Casner love them, and so does our local Oroville Chamber of Commerce. Pam and John are moving on. No, no, no... they are not leaving town, selling or otherwise! Pam is now a board member of the Oroville Chamber of Commerce. I think that is a good thing. (Pam and John Casner purchased Betty Jean’s, an established woman’s retail store, from her Mom. They carry a favorite and well-known line of clothing for me and ladies who love good-looking attire at affordable prices. I call it it Koret Fashions! I was first introduced to this brand-name many years ago!) Who comes to the store on a regular basis? People who have lived here for years, and years, and years. And people like me, a newcomer who loves Koret clothing.
Did you go to the Birdcage this past week? Why not? Have you signed up for FEVER the 14th of February? Why not? Do you support one of the local causes: the senior center, YMCA, Birdcage or State Theatre? If not, why not? If yes, please tell me about your local favorites. Tell me where you shop, where you like to eat, etc. Drop me a line on my E-Mail della@diggernews.com or send a letter to my Publisher, David Miller, 2057 Mitchell Avenue, Oroville, CA 95966.
