Medicare Workshop Planned for January 28, 2010
PASSAGES wants to inform Medicare beneficiaries who are either new to Medicare, those who will become Medicare eligible in the next few months, or those needing a refresher, that they will have an opportunity to get the guidance they need at HICAPs Welcome to Medicare workshop. This workshop will also include information about the once a year Medicare Advantage open enrollment period that runs from January 1st to March 31st each year.
Important questions to be asking at this time include:
• When am I eligible for Medicare?
• When and where should I sign up for Medicare?
• Is it automatic? (not always)
• If I am not receiving Social Security how will my Medicare Premiums be paid?
• What if I continue to work and also have Medicare?
• Do I really need a Medicare prescription plan if I continue to work?
• What type of supplement should I have?
• Has someone tried to enroll you in a plan you didnt understand?
• Did you know that you might be eligible for extra help paying for your prescriptions and your Medicare Part B premiums?
• Can I use the Medicare Advantage open enrollment period that runs from January 1st to March 31st each year?
People who become eligible for Medicare will be deluged with information about supplements and other offers as private plans begin their marketing to you. Before making any decisions, Tatiana Fassieux, Program Manager for the Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program (HICAP) warns that people should do their homework. Signing up with the wrong plan, or not doing anything, may cost them thousands of dollars, and they may not be able to make further changes if certain deadlines are missed.
To help seniors and adults with disabilities that are new to Medicare learn more about the A, B, C, and Ds of the Medicare system, a free workshop is planned for:
January 28th, 2PM-4PM at the Chico C.A.R.D., 545 Vallombrosa Ave, Chico 95948, Welcome to Medicare a refresher or for those new to Medicare.
