Christmas in the Berry Creek Mountains
In Berry Creek we have an annual Christmas party for all the children in our community. This year, it will be December 19th at our very own volunteer fire department.
We start out in August at the berry festival, making milk shakes and selling raffle tickets for a great prize, to earn money for our upcoming Christmas party for our children. Then in October we get another raffle prize and start selling tickets again. We send out donation letters to the local rancherias and businesses, for donations. We would like to thank those rancherias for all the donations they have given through the years; we really have appreciated them. Thank You Berry Creek Rancheria, Enterprise Rancheria and the Mooretown Rancheria, thank you so much.
The Community comes together with help in the form of food, toys, money and time donations. We have shoppers, wrappers, cooks and even a clean up crew to make this a great Christmas for the children and the community. We serve a big Christmas dinner for the whole community, serving, turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, veggies, salad and a roll. Dessert is served afterward with coffee and hot chocolate for all, donated from some of our great cooks here in our community.
Then the big moment all kids with their full tummies have been waiting for! Santa Claus and his elves show up to give each and ever child, from newborn to 18 years old, a gift.
We started this tradition back in 2001; this is our 8th annual party and we are planning many more to come. So let’s make the 8th one to remember, let’s open our hearts and bring our community together for the kids this year, just as we have in the past.
