Pioneer Museum’s Holiday Open House, November 29, 2009
The Pioneer Memorial Museum will host its annual holiday open house on Sunday, November 29th, from noon until 4:00 P.M. The event, sponsored by the City of Oroville Docents, has become an annual tradition. The museum is located at 2332 Montgomery Street, in the Historic Downtown District.
The museum, first opened in 1932, was built as a replica of a 49er’s cabin and over time has been expanded to two levels containing over 6000 square feet of interesting items illustrating the lives of Oroville’s early pioneers. One display is devoted specifically to the lives of the Danforth and Boyle pioneer families the museum founders who kept it open for decades. It could be said that this museum matches the old saying “don’t judge a book by its cover.” but in the case of the Pioneer Museum it should be “don’t judge a museum by its front door,” Freda Flint, City of Oroville Parks Commissioner, said, “Once inside, visitors are very surprised by not only the actual size of the museum but the attention to detail in each of the many displays which are replicas of our early settlers’ homes.”
A beautiful Christmas tree will grace the vaulted fireplace room just inside the entrance, refreshments will be served, and Santa Claus will be there with gifts for all the little visitors. Add this event to your holiday traditions and you won’t be disappointed. Please call the City’s Parks and Recreation Department at (530) 538-2415 with questions.
