Two Hikes in the Sutter Buttes, November 21 & 28

Everyone has climbed to the top of a hill or mountain, but what about walking around one?  You can do just that by signing up for Yuba Historical Society’s Cat Rock Loop hike on Saturday, November 21. Cat Rock is a small volcanic pinnacle split in half, ascending 500’ above a Sutter Butte interior valley. The five-hour walk includes many breaks to take-in features such as a close-up view of Cat Rock’s shear walls with the Sierra Nevada Mountains off in the distance.
On Saturday, November 28, work off Thanksgiving’s dinner with an energetic climb to the center of the Sutter Butte volcano on the Ridge Walker Delight hike. This six-hour excursion begins with a climb up to a 1500’ ridge where hikers will gaze upon one of the longest views in California. After lunch, we trek westward atop a ridge with stunning vistas all along the route.  Both hikes include instructions on the Buttes exceptional geology, biology and history.  Cost for the Cat Rock hike is $15 for YHS members, the Ridge Walker hike is $35, membership begin at $15—$10 extra for non-members.
