Friends of Parks Receive City Proclamation

The Friends of the Parks recently received a proclamation from the City of Oroville acknowledging their years of dedicated service to the City. The proclamation signed by Mayor Steve Jernigan said in part, “Whereas the Friends of the Parks have been a definite positive influence in our community with their numerous good deeds and donations...and I urge all citizens to join with me in this sincere expression of appreciation for their exceptional community service.”
The Friends of the Parks, a non-profit organization, was established in 1963 with a mission to assist the City of Oroville in projects and funding outside of the normal city budget process.  Over the years they have contributed an incredible amount of time, money, and resources to the City Museums.  Recently they were instrumental in the painting and exterior restoration, in addition to the refurbishment of the catering kitchen to include stainless steel countertops, at the historic Lott Home at Sank Park.  One only has to visit the museums to see the improvements and special touches that this dedicated group has done including hand rails at the Pioneer History Museum, area rugs at the Lott Home, the arbors at the Chinese Temple and Museum Complex, to name a few.  A recent audit of the artifacts at the Chinese Temple and Museum Complex was funded by the group.
The Friends of the Parks meet the third Thursday of each month in the Coach Room at Sank Park and welcome new members.  For additional information please contact the City of Oroville Parks and Trees Department at (530) 538-2415, or visit the City website at wwwcityoforoville.org.
