The Newcomer
(by Della Bacon - September 14, 2009)
If you can dream it, you can achieve it! I know that for a fact, because I see it all over this community. Dreams turned into reality. Wonderful dreams that have come true for those who were diligent and put forth the effort. Take for instance the next happening at the Lott Home in Sank Park: The Third Annual Bounty of Oroville Festival, scheduled for this Sunday, September 20th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (1067 Montgomery Street).
It’s a family affair, so don’t come alone. Bring Mom and Pop and all the kiddies. There will be food, drink, games, and clowns. You will meet local artists, see great entertainment, hear beautiful music and feel like dancing, as you walk and explore what Oroville has to offer. It is a great opportunity to re-acquaint yourself with folks you have known for many years, and to meet some of the new proprietors, who have invested in this beautiful community. Seeing is believing, but the purpose is to touch and taste what is available in our town. Don’t miss out. Sunday is the big day. Hope to see you there!
Talking about dreams and big days, I received a telephone message from a very, very, special man last week: “Della, call me. It’s really important.” My face turned crimson, and my heart skipped a beat. The greatest salesman I have ever met was calling me. Well, we played telephone tag for a couple of days. Finally, after getting his wife’s permission, we got together. (That is right, I had to make sure Laila knew I planned on meeting with her husband Bud, at Bolt’s Antique Tool Museum.) He had clearly said: “I have something to show you. Can you come to the Museum in the morning?” (Well, with an invitation like that, what would you have done? Of course, you would call the wife! Just to be sure, everything is kosher, prim and proper.)
I met with the very famous Bud Bolt, at the museum, as planned. To my delight and surprise, he laid out some very new and original gift items and all-occasion cards that are now available to purchase at the Museum. You bet I gawked! What a delight! And, so unique, original, so Oroville... Of course, I had to inquire: “Where, what, how...did these treasures come to you?”
But you’ll have to wait to learn more ‘cause I will be out of town for awhile. You can still email me, though at della@diggernews.com
