The Newcomer

(by Della Bacon - August 03, 2009)

Berry Festival in Berry Creek is coming this weekend.  We had a blast last year, and they promise to have lots more fun this year.  The weather man has assured me it will be cooler on the hill.  I’ll see you there.
Think of me as a motivator, not an instigator ... Why?
I cannot lead.  I do not want to follow.  What I enjoy most is walking beside my friends, co-workers, neighbors, and relatives.  That’s right; this Newcomer is just an ordinary individual who lacks formal education, leadership qualities, and is incapable of taking a determined stand on political issues, as was represented by the young actress, Jane Fonda, a woman somewhat close to my age.
I like to be with ordinary people who enjoy the companionship of guys, gals, girls, kids, and who just plain enjoy life!   If you walk, talk, bike, jog, swim, shop till you drop ... etc.  I am with You.   What about computers?  Well, I am trying.  Think I will take another course at the Adult School.  It doesn’t matter.  If you like what I say, let us get together.  Me, you, and the dozens who can relate:  To live is to love and have fun while you are living.  I have discovered a new passion—  The Theater.
The 25th Season of the Birdcage Theatre has ended, with a great performance of “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.”   Wow!  Did that bring back memories of yesteryear.  If you remember the original movie in 1962, you may be older than me!  I always believed it was a movie with a message.
This is where I confess, “I badgered my boss, David Miller to purchase a full season of Birdcage Theatre tickets, so I could get a feeling about “Oroville Has Talent.”  The problem is, I got overwhelmed, teary-eyed, and somewhat delirious!  Had a great time, met super people, and kept going back.  Now there is a new season (#26) and a new reason to keep an ear to the wall, and both eyes open to what The Birdcage Theatre plans for the newest season.
Coming soon is “The Odd Couple,” with a twist.  This time it is about girls, not guys.  From what I understand it is going to be hilarious.  Please get your season tickets for the new season.  I love what I saw last year, and am becoming rather fond of all the dedicated folks who work so hard putting these plays together.  Raquelana Pina (Ana) is the Director and her daughter, Raquel Pina is right there with her Mom working as the Co-Director of the play.  They make a great team, four eyes are better than two.  (Oops, I mean six eyes are better than two.)  Ruby Thomas is Assistant Director.  Raquel is home from college (Cal Tech, Pomona).
Sarah Pierce, a seasoned and award-winning Actress, known to many in our area, will be playing the lead character, Mickey.  There’s more, but I’m not at liberty to divulge inside information.  Mark your calendars for the weekends of September 18th. through October 4th, 2009 for “The Odd Couple” performances at The Birdcage Theater.
Did you make it to the Bridal Showcase at Gold Country Casino?  One of my very favorite people Cynthia Brodie of Tawnic Hair & Nail Studio works with these special models fussing over their hair and nails.  You want to look that great?  Call her at 530-532-0488.  (She promised she could make me look years younger.)  Just between you and me that lady at Evolve, Terri Grant, swears by this girl’s talent.
Talking about weddings—did you know that Mark Johnston, the actor, and Julienne were married in May?  I just found out.  Please, try a little harder to keep me informed.  Email me: della@diggernews.com
