Opening Day in Forbestown, May 30

Opening Day for the Yuba Feather Museum and Gold Trader Flat located at 19096 New York Flat Road in Forbestown is set for May 30, 2009.  Opening Day is the first of three living history events this season and docents in period costumes will relate the exciting history and colorful stories of days gone by in the gold rich towns of the foot hills.  Gold Trader Flat is a replica town built in the fashion of the old mining and logging towns of the 1850’s.  Try out tools and activities of the early settlers, walk on stilts, ring the schoolhouse bell, saw a log with a crosscut saw, sip a cold sarsaparilla or shop in the mercantile. A collection of 3,000 photographs records the transition through time and is of vital interest to those searching for ancestors or tracing the past.  More than 300 family group records and other records are on file.  Staff members will assist with searches and Internet sources.
The 3rd annual Chili Cook Off will be held on Opening Day and runs from 10 AM to 2 PM with prizes awarded for a variety of categories.  $5 will buy a tasting kit and you can vote for your favorite chili.  Contact Stan or Marilyn Meadows at 675-2930 for details and registration information.
Gunfights, hold ups at the Wells Fargo office, dancers, live music, demonstrations and tasty food prepared in the Pantry will provide a wholesome family outing and admission in free.  The day begins at 9 AM with a flag raising and ends at 4 PM.  So bring the family, explore the town and enjoy a fun filled day in the beautiful foothills of Butte and Yuba County.
